💖 Why give to Radiating Hope?
In 2023, Patrick participated in a Radiating Hope fundraising climb to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro alongside a group of cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, and advocates for advancing global cancer care. What started as a purely physical challenge quickly morphed into something much more meaningful. Sharing the climb with individuals who had firsthand experience with cancer turned the ascent into a powerful lesson in resilience, perspective, and gratitude. That experience stayed with Patrick long after the descent, throughout his physics residency, and now into his first job out of training. It reinforced why he chose to enter the field of medical physics, and sharpened his awareness of how critical accessible cancer treatment is, especially in parts of the world where resources are limited, such as in Tanzania. Expanding access to radiating oncology in areas of need is the mission of Radiating Hope.
Patrick explains, "As Nicole Rose and I plan our wedding, I keep returning to those moments on the mountain. That climb reminded me that meaningful milestones are opportunities to give back, and that collective effort can create lasting change." He continues, "That's why we've decided to establish a charity fundraiser as part of our wedding story. That way, we can carry that lesson forward and continue supporting the global fight against cancer. Thank you for your support!"
💐Patrick and Nicole Rose's Story
Patrick and Nicole Rose met as students in 2021 when they both started new graduate programs: Nicole Rose was starting her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Patrick began his MS in medical physics.
Patrick shares, "While we attended rival basketball grad schools (Duke vs. UNC), we were united by our love for football at our Alma Mater, Notre Dame. Over the years, we've been on tons of adventures together: Mountains, beaches, skyscrapers, and remote islands. Our greatest challenge was two years of medium distance apart because I had to move to Charlotte in the summer of 2023 to complete my medical physics residency - that was the same summer I climbed Kilimanjaro with Radiating Hope!"
Now, the two live happily together in New Jersey. Nicole Rose works as a senior scientist at Merck, and Patrick works as a medical physicist for the Lehigh Valley Health Network.
